Hyderabad Metro–RTC Pass Prices Set for Major Cut: Daily Pass at ₹325, Monthly Pass May Cost ₹4,500
Hyderabad commuters could soon receive significant relief in their daily travel expenses, with the Telangana government planning to reduce the prices of the combined Hyderabad Metro and Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) travel passes. The proposed revision is expected to make the integrated public transport facility more affordable for employees, students and regular city travellers.
The proposed changes come after commuters expressed dissatisfaction with the original prices of the common travel passes, particularly the monthly option. By reducing the cost, the government aims to encourage more people to use public transportation and make journeys across Hyderabad more convenient.
Metro–RTC Common Pass Prices to Come Down
The Telangana government is considering a substantial reduction in the existing prices of the Metro–RTC common travel passes.
Under the proposed revised pricing, the one-day common pass is expected to cost ₹325 instead of the existing ₹400. The monthly pass, which currently costs ₹8,500, is expected to become available for approximately ₹4,500.
This would represent a reduction of ₹75 in the daily pass and ₹4,000 in the monthly pass. If implemented, the monthly price revision would bring down the cost by nearly 47 per cent.
However, the revised prices should currently be treated as proposed rates until the government issues formal implementation orders.
Why Is the Government Reducing Pass Prices?
The common travel pass was introduced in October 2026 to integrate Hyderabad Metro Rail and TGSRTC city bus services through a single travel card.
The original pricing structure included a ₹400 one-day pass, consisting of ₹300 allocated to Metro services and ₹100 towards RTC bus travel. The monthly pass was priced at ₹8,500, with ₹7,000 allocated to Metro travel and ₹1,500 towards bus services.
Although the initiative was designed to simplify public transportation, the pricing received mixed reactions from commuters.
Many regular passengers felt that the monthly pass was too expensive compared with their existing individual travel expenses. For middle-income families, students and office employees, spending ₹8,500 every month on public transportation was not necessarily an attractive option.
The government subsequently considered reviewing the prices following public feedback and concerns about affordability.
How Much Can Monthly Commuters Save?
The proposed reduction could make a considerable difference to people who regularly travel using both Metro trains and city buses.
Consider a commuter purchasing the existing monthly common pass for ₹8,500. If the proposed ₹4,500 price is implemented, the passenger would save ₹4,000 every month.
Over 12 months, this could translate into savings of ₹48,000 for someone purchasing the pass continuously.
The daily pass reduction would also benefit passengers who need to travel using both transport systems on particular days.
However, the actual financial benefit will depend on individual travel patterns. Passengers who primarily use buses or occasionally travel by Metro may still find individual tickets or separate passes more economical.
One Pass for Metro Trains and RTC Buses
The integrated common pass allows passengers to use Hyderabad Metro Rail and eligible TGSRTC city bus services through a single card.
This arrangement is particularly useful for people whose daily journeys involve multiple transportation modes.
For example, a passenger living in a residential locality might take an RTC bus to reach the nearest Metro station, continue the journey by train and use another bus to reach the workplace.
Previously, passengers had to manage separate tickets or travel arrangements for these services. The common pass is intended to simplify the process and make transfers more convenient.
The facility covers eligible TGSRTC city buses operating within the Outer Ring Road limits. However, Pushpak airport bus services are excluded from the common pass arrangement.
The existing common pass is available through Hyderabad Metro station ticketing counters.
Will the New Prices Benefit Employees and Students?
Working professionals who commute regularly between residential areas and major employment centres could benefit from more affordable combined travel.
Hyderabad has several important employment destinations, including HITEC City, Madhapur, Gachibowli, Ameerpet and other commercial areas. Many commuters depend on a combination of buses and Metro services to reach these locations.
A lower monthly pass price could make public transportation more attractive, particularly for people who currently spend significant amounts on daily commuting.
Students travelling regularly between educational institutions, residential areas and coaching centres could also benefit, depending on their routes and travel requirements.
Nevertheless, passengers should compare the revised pass price with their actual monthly travel expenditure before purchasing it.
Could Affordable Passes Reduce Hyderabad Traffic?
Hyderabad continues to experience considerable traffic movement, particularly during morning and evening office hours.
The availability of affordable public transportation is one factor that can encourage people to reduce their dependence on private vehicles.
A reasonably priced integrated pass could make it easier for commuters to combine bus and Metro journeys rather than using cars or two-wheelers for their entire commute.
It could also improve the usefulness of the Metro network by making access to stations easier through connecting bus services.
However, lower fares alone cannot solve urban traffic congestion. Reliable services, sufficient bus availability, convenient interchange facilities and better last-mile connectivity are equally important.
When Will the Revised Prices Come Into Effect?
The proposed fare reduction is expected to be finalised after discussions between the concerned transport authorities and the state government.
Reports indicate that the government is considering ₹325 for the daily common pass and approximately ₹4,500 for the monthly option. The final fare structure and implementation date will depend on the official decision.
Until the revised orders are issued, passengers should check the prevailing prices before purchasing or renewing their passes.
What Commuters Should Expect
The proposed Metro–RTC common pass price reduction could become an important step towards making Hyderabad's public transportation more affordable.
Reducing the monthly pass from ₹8,500 to approximately ₹4,500 would make the integrated facility considerably more accessible to regular commuters. The daily pass reduction could also encourage occasional passengers to explore combined public transport journeys.
Ultimately, the success of the initiative will depend on whether the revised prices offer genuine savings and whether both transport systems provide convenient, reliable connections.
For Hyderabad's daily commuters, the proposed reduction is an encouraging development. The next important step is the official confirmation of the revised fares and their implementation.
