Tragic Death of Bengaluru Delivery Boy: A Minor Road Incident Turns Fatal

In a shocking incident that unfolded in Bengaluru, a minor road brush escalated into a deadly attack resulting in the murder of a young food delivery agent. The tragic event has raised concerns about road rage and the safety of delivery personnel who serve the city during late hours.

The Incident

On the evening of October 25, around 9 PM, Darshan, a 24-year-old delivery boy from Kembattalli, was involved in a minor collision with a car driven by Manoj Kumar, a Kalaripayattu trainer originally from Kerala. The incident took place at Nataraja Layout in Bengaluru. According to police reports, Darshan’s scooter brushed against the right-side rear-view mirror of Kumar’s car, causing slight damage.

Even though Darshan apologized and proceeded to continue his delivery, the driver’s reaction was extreme and furious. Manoj Kumar made an enraged U-turn and pursued Darshan on the road. The confrontation culminated when Kumar rammed his car into Darshan’s scooter from behind. The impact threw both Darshan and his pillion rider, Varun, onto the road.

Immediate Aftermath

Local residents quickly rushed to help the injured riders and sent them to a hospital. Unfortunately, Darshan was declared dead on arrival. Varun survived the crash but was severely traumatized. Initially, Darshan’s family filed a hit-and-run complaint with the JP Nagar traffic police, assuming the incident to be an accident.

Investigations and Arrests

The investigation took a turn when CCTV footage from the area was examined. The footage clearly showed that the car deliberately swerved left to ram into Darshan’s scooter, indicating the act was premeditated rather than an accident.

Moreover, the footage revealed that the couple—Manoj Kumar and his wife Aarati Sharma, who hails from Jammu & Kashmir—returned to the accident site around 9:40 PM. Wearing masks initially, they were seen picking up broken parts from the car. Later, they appeared without masks, which facilitated their identification.

The couple got married five years ago and now stands accused of the deliberate murder of Darshan. While Kumar admitted only to the act of ramming the scooter and claimed his wife was only helping him pick up car parts, both were arrested and charged with murder by the police. They have been sent to 14-day judicial custody.

Police Statements and Public Concern

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Lokesh Jagalasar confirmed the arrest and stated that the couple confessed to the crime. This incident has highlighted the dangers delivery workers face on the streets, especially during late-night shifts, and the consequences of unchecked road rage.

Conclusion

The death of Darshan is a tragic reminder of how a moment of anger on the road can lead to devastating consequences. It underscores the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and road safety awareness. The families of delivery agents, who tirelessly contribute to the city’s economy, deserve protection and respect on the roads.

This incident has sent shockwaves through Bengaluru, calling for urgent conversations about empathy, restraint, and legal deterrents to prevent such needless loss of life in the future.
