PVR's Managing Director, Ajay Bijli, has come out strongly in defense of the company's ticket and popcorn prices, urging critics to do their homework before passing judgment. In a recent conversation, Bijli emphasized that the average ticket price at PVR is around ₹259, and the experience offered justifies the cost, pointing to the chain's robust footfall and post-pandemic recovery as proof of its popularity. 

He clarified that while some premium screens may have tickets priced at ₹600–700, these are not representative of the overall average, and the popcorn prices start at ₹159, not the often-cited ₹400, which is for high-end cinema experiences and includes unlimited refills. 

Bijli dismissed claims of excessive pricing, noting that PVR has seen record growth, with nearly 8 million cinema-goers this year and strong EBITDA figures, indicating that audiences continue to value the experience. 

He also highlighted PVR's expansion into southern India and tier three and four cities, where new screens are being added with a focus on affordability, and a new product line with lower capex and ticket prices is being rolled out for smaller towns. Despite social media backlash and concerns about rising prices, especially for snacks, PVR has maintained that its pricing is reasonable and aligned with the evolving entertainment ecosystem, stressing that cinemas remain a vital part of India's out-of-home culture.

PVR INOX's average ticket price (ATP) has shown a steady trend in 2025, hovering around ₹260–₹262 for most of the year. In Q2 FY26, the average ticket price rose to ₹262, marking a 1.9% year-on-year increase, supported by strong box office performance and higher footfalls. Earlier in Q1 FY26, the ATP was ₹254, up 8% YoY, reflecting continued recovery and premium content-driven pricing. 

Industry reports and company statements confirm that PVR INOX's national average ticket price remains close to ₹260 as of December 2025, with promotional offers such as Blockbuster Tuesday bringing discounted rates to ₹95 for select screenings. The pricing strategy balances premium experiences with affordability, especially in smaller towns and through periodic promotions. Overall, the trend shows a moderate upward movement in ticket prices, driven by rising operational costs and strong demand for cinema experiences.
