Oriom Group Enters Odisha Real Estate Market With New Realty Arm
Bhubaneswar: Oriom Group has expanded beyond its established industrial businesses with the launch of Oriom Realty, a dedicated real estate vertical aimed at developing a range of projects across Odisha. The new business will focus on residential, commercial, retail, hospitality and mixed-use developments, with Bhubaneswar and other emerging growth corridors identified as the initial areas of attention.
The announcement marks a significant new direction for the group, which has spent more than two decades operating in sectors including steel and power, speciality chemicals and refractories. Oriom Group originated in Jharsuguda and is headquartered in Bhubaneswar. According to the company, its operations currently employ more than 3,000 people across several industrial facilities in eastern India.
From Industrial Operations to Urban Development
The launch of Oriom Realty reflects the group's broader view that Odisha's economic expansion will increasingly create demand for organised urban development. The company intends to use capabilities developed through its industrial operations—including engineering, financial management, governance and project execution—in its new real estate business.
While the latest announcement represents a formal entry into organised real estate, the group has previously been involved in housing development. In 2007, it facilitated the development of four multi-storey residential projects in Jharsuguda. Those developments were undertaken at a time when the city was witnessing increasing demand for modern housing.
With Oriom Realty, the group is now seeking to establish a broader and more structured presence in Odisha's property market.
Bhubaneswar Among Initial Focus Areas
Bhubaneswar will be one of the key markets for the new real estate arm. The company also plans to examine other growth corridors across Odisha as it builds its project pipeline.
Oriom Group has linked its real estate strategy to the state's infrastructure expansion, industrial development and urbanisation. Investments in highways, airports, ports, railways and urban infrastructure are among the factors the company believes can support economic activity and create additional requirements for housing, commercial spaces and other urban assets.
The group also views Bhubaneswar as an increasingly important knowledge and investment centre in eastern India. As economic activity spreads beyond established urban centres, the company expects opportunities to emerge across multiple property categories rather than being limited to residential development.
Multiple Property Segments Planned
Oriom Realty is not being positioned solely as a housing developer. Its planned portfolio includes residential communities alongside retail centres, commercial properties, hospitality assets and mixed-use developments.
The company has indicated that sustainability, technology, construction standards and customer engagement will form part of its approach to future developments. By combining these elements with the parent group's engineering and institutional capabilities, Oriom Realty intends to build projects suited to the changing requirements of Odisha's growing urban centres.
The mixed-use focus could also allow the company to participate in developments that combine residential and commercial components, while its hospitality and retail plans could broaden its exposure to the state's evolving urban economy.
Odisha's Urbanisation Creates Long-Term Opportunity
Urbanisation is a central factor behind the group's decision to enter real estate. Odisha's current urbanisation level is around 17%, while the state has set a target of reaching 40% by 2036 and 60% by 2047. These long-term targets indicate the scale of urban transformation anticipated by the state over the coming decades.
Oriom Group sees this transition as closely connected with industrial expansion and infrastructure investment. Greater economic activity can increase demand for homes, workplaces, retail facilities, hospitality services and integrated communities, creating opportunities for developers operating across different segments.
The company has also connected its plans with Odisha's broader Vision 2036 and Vision 2047 development objectives, which include urbanisation, industrial competitiveness, logistics and regional economic corridors.
Leadership Sees Real Estate as a Natural Extension
Deepak Agrawal, director of Oriom Group, said the company's experience in Odisha's industrial economy over the past 21 years had shaped its view that the state's next phase of development would increasingly involve urban growth. He described Oriom Realty as a long-term commitment to participating in urban infrastructure and community development alongside industrial expansion.
Founder and director Rajesh Agrawal highlighted the group's existing experience in engineering, financial management and project execution, describing real estate as an extension of those capabilities. Director Anil Kedia said the company aims to develop communities with modern infrastructure as Odisha continues to attract investment.
For Oriom Group, the new vertical therefore represents more than diversification into another business segment. It is an attempt to participate directly in the urban development expected to accompany Odisha's industrialisation, infrastructure expansion and rising urbanisation.
With its first project pipeline centred on Bhubaneswar and other emerging growth corridors, Oriom Realty will now look to translate the group's industrial experience into a wider presence in Odisha's evolving real estate landscape.
