Lionel Messi Buys $8 Million Fort Lauderdale Home Next to His Existing Mansion

Lionel Messi has expanded his South Florida real estate holdings with the purchase of an $8 million waterfront home directly next to the Fort Lauderdale property he already owns.

The transaction, reported on September 24, 2026, was made through Sadani LLC, an entity linked to Messi’s longtime financial manager Alfonso Nebot Armisen. Public property records show that the company acquired the neighboring residence in Fort Lauderdale’s gated Bay Colony community.

Messi Adds a Second Waterfront Property

The newly purchased home is located at 71 Compass Lane and covers about 7,660 square feet. Property records and reporting on the transaction indicate that the house has seven bedrooms, six full bathrooms and a half bathroom, along with a waterfront pool and approximately 160 feet of water frontage.

The house was originally built in 1977. Its previous owners, Michael and Michelle Nelson, purchased the property for $2.7 million in 2013 before selling it to the Messi-linked entity for $8 million.

That means the property changed hands for roughly three times its 2013 purchase price, although the actual investment return for the previous owners would also depend on taxes, transaction costs, renovations and other expenses.

The New Property Sits Beside Messi's Existing Home

The purchase is particularly notable because Messi already owns the neighboring property.

Messi and his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, purchased the adjacent Fort Lauderdale residence in 2023 for approximately $10.8 million, shortly after Messi joined Inter Miami. That home has eight bedrooms and about 10,500 square feet of interior space, with roughly 170 feet of waterfront frontage.

With the two adjoining properties, the combined holdings amount to approximately 0.8 acres, more than 18,100 square feet of interior space and around 330 feet of waterfront frontage, based on reported property details.

Why Buying the Neighboring Property Matters

For luxury homeowners, purchasing an adjoining property can provide something that a single large house cannot: control over the surrounding land.

In Messi's case, the acquisition gives his property interests a larger continuous waterfront footprint. It could potentially provide additional privacy, guest accommodation or flexibility for future use.

However, there has been no confirmed public announcement explaining exactly how Messi intends to use the new property. Reports have discussed possibilities such as keeping the properties as a larger compound, but those possibilities should not be treated as confirmed plans.

A Significant South Florida Real Estate Investment

The $8 million purchase also highlights the value of waterfront property in Fort Lauderdale's luxury market.

The new residence alone represents a substantial transaction at approximately $1,045 per square foot, based on its reported sale price and size. More importantly, combining neighboring waterfront parcels can create a larger and less easily replicated property because suitable adjacent lots are limited.

This is one reason why high-value buyers sometimes acquire properties beside homes they already own. The strategy is not unique to Messi and has also been seen among other wealthy property owners in South Florida.

Messi's Connection to Fort Lauderdale

Messi's move to South Florida began with his arrival at Inter Miami in 2023. His first major Fort Lauderdale property purchase followed soon afterward.

The latest acquisition indicates that his real estate presence in the area has expanded rather than remaining limited to a single residence.

It also demonstrates how a celebrity's property strategy can evolve from simply buying a luxury home to acquiring neighboring land that increases the size and flexibility of an existing estate.

What the Purchase Says About Luxury Real Estate

The Messi transaction offers a useful example of an important principle in high-end real estate: location and land configuration can be as important as the house itself.

A luxury property may already have a large home, pool and waterfront access, but an adjoining parcel can add something that cannot easily be created elsewhere—additional land immediately beside the existing residence.

For buyers operating at this price level, that scarcity can make neighboring properties particularly valuable.

The Bigger Picture

Messi's latest $8 million purchase is more than another celebrity-home transaction. It adds a second waterfront property beside his existing Fort Lauderdale residence and creates a significantly larger combined footprint.

At the same time, the available public information does not establish whether the two properties will eventually be physically combined, redeveloped or simply maintained as separate residences.

For now, the clearest fact is straightforward: a company linked to Lionel Messi has purchased the waterfront home next to his existing Fort Lauderdale mansion for $8 million, expanding his property presence in one of South Florida's luxury residential areas.
