Kolam house

KOLAM HOUSE is in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, rests a tropical-inspired residence that borrows design-based references and inspiration from significant cultural highlights from South India with the overarching aim of capturing the unhindered beauty of nature in her truest avatar. Talking about the design of her home that she has designed for herself and her family, architect Sowmya Kumar of Owm Architecture says, “Like any other south Indian, visits to my native town (Chettinad architecture), holidays in Nilgiris (influenced by Brit-Colonial architecture), temple visits (Dravidian architecture) were mostly the inspiration for the design ethos of my home. The ground floor has a carpark, a veranda, living, dining, courtyard, garden, guest room, guest bathroom, dry and wet kitchens…all this inside a 2,899sqft plot. All spaces are naturally well-ventilated, which collude to make spaces seem big too.”
